About
Dr. Sangeeta Barthakur completed her Bachelor's Degree in 1989 with Statistics Honours, securing 1st Class 1st position. She was also recognized as the Best Graduate of 1989 in the Science Stream under Gauhati University, all while studying at Cotton College, which was affiliated with Gauhati University at the time. She completed her Master’s Degree in Mathematical Statistics in 1992, again securing 1st Class 1st position from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Delhi, affiliated with Ramjas College. She started her teaching journey as a Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at Cotton College in 1993. She was the recipient of a Doctoral Fellowship from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, under the scheme "Awards and Fellowships for Outstanding and Meritorious Research Work in Statistics" for a period of two years which facilitated her Ph.D. research work. She was awarded Ph.D. degree by Gauhati University in 2008 for her research on the topic "Stochastic and Statistical Analysis of Some Aspects of Schizophrenia." Her research interests include Applied Statistics, particularly in Medical Research, as well as Stochastic Modeling, Markov Processes, Renewal Theory, Probability and Discrete Distributions, and Design of Experiments.
She is a Research Guide at Cotton University and currently supervises three Research Scholars in their research. She has extensive experience in mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Department with their research projects. She has published four research papers and contributed to chapters in books. She has also attended and presented research papers at various national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. She served as the Head of the Department from January 2021 to January 2024. She has been serving as a member of the Research Council of Cotton University since 2021. Additionally, she has been the Director in charge of the Capacity Building Centre at Cotton University since 2022 and was appointed as a member of the Advisory and Mentoring Committee of the Chief Minister’s Climate Resilient Village Fellowship program on February 24, 2023.
